Yamazato – Japanese Kaiseki Cuisine

Awarded with One Michelin star, Yamazato Restaurant not only breathes of Japanese authentic Kaiseki Cuisine but also the traditional ambience. The restaurant is situated on the ground floor of Okura Hotel in Amsterdam. The female staff wears kimono. Very elegant. Service is professional. Excellent food. I was here for lunch and I really enjoyed it. The place is quite formal and as in many high end restaurants people do not talk very loud which is a plus point.

After lunch, I bought their cooking book inside their cooking studio at the basement level. A delightful 20 Kaiseki recipes (Japanese haute cuisine) in this book with photos and clear explanation. Also included a step by step photographs and tips. For beginners as well as hobby cooks.

Pros: Authentic Japanse Kaiseki cuisine, excellent service, good for business lunch.

Cons: If you are in a hurry to eat, this is not the place as it is a relax atmosphere. They take their time and the food is executed to perfection. Pricey. If you are used to “All You Can Eat” at a Japanese restaurant, this restaurant serves small portion.
